17th Purbiahs

Bass Drummer and Piper

Two piece boxed set.

 £22.00p.

The 17th Loyal Purbiah were formed from those elements of the 3rd, 36th and 61st regiments of the old Bombay Presidency Army that did not mutiny in 1857.

They won battle honours for their part in the Afghan War of 1879 and formed part of the Indian Army contingent in the Sudan in 1855.

They wore a scarlet turban distinguished by a silver crescent.

Pipe bands became very popular in Indian regiments towards the end of the nineteenth century, often inspiring elements of highland dress into the piper's uniforms.
