The 1890 Durham Light Infantry was an amalgamation of the 68th Foot , officially the Durham Light Infantry since 1808, and one of the European regiments of the old East India Company, the 2nd Bombay Light Infantry, which became the 106th after the Mutiny.
By 1890 the Regiments had fought in the Peninsular War 1810-13, the Crimean 1845-7 and 1863-6; and in the Persian War of 1867-8 (2nd Bombay Light Infantry).
